Whether you are a parent or a stepparent juggling a schedule can be difficult, and now that school has let out for the year, I feel as if I have to put on my event planner hat. Do you feel that way too?
It goes from several hours of schoolwork to homework and getting ready for the next day, too, “what are we doing not to die from boredom.” Of course, the kids would be self-entertained on video games all day, but this mama says a big fat No to that! So that leaves me planning things to keep the kids busy for the summer.
Usually, we have VBS at our local church with fun activities all week long or a summer camp, but Summer 2020 is all about social distancing. Here is what this mama is doing for fun-filled summer activities
We go to the neighborhood pool several days a week. If you do not have access to a pool, then bring the sprinkler back or slip – n slide.
Take a day trip and explore places in your local state.
Let the kids cook! Pinterest has lots of great ideas for cooking with your kids. I let the kids make their pizzas and sub sandwiches. It is simple, but they enjoy creating their meal.
Popsicles are fun for the kids to make and can also be a great way to sneak fruit into their diet.
Family Game Night! Have the kids put down the video games or tablets and learn how to play a board game.
Plant a flower garden or vegetable garden, having the kids watering and taking care of it all summer long.
Take walks and bike rides around your neighborhood or find trails to explore in your town.
We visit local farms and farmers market to help support our fellow neighbors
Allow the kids to discover the history of their town.
From one mom to the next, who understands it is not easy to work, manage your home, be a helpmate to your spouse, and keep the kids stimulated during the summer. But I hope my post has given you some ideas to help you get through the summer months—comment below with something you are doing with your kids.
