Summer Idea’s For Your Kids and Stepkids

As a stepmom, you must be prepared for schedule shifts and changes. The school year for us is Monday through Wednesday and every other weekend. As the school year ends and summer break begins, the schedule changes to every other week, and summer break seems to come with the expected role of “event planner!”

Below are some ideas to help you survive the summer with your kids and stepkids.

Activities

Take a day trip! If you do a quick search, you should be able to find many fun places to explore. A few years ago, we took the family to Silver Springs for the day. The kids got to explore the park and ride on the glass-bottom boat. We also visited the historic town of St. Augustine and shopped along St George street. We gave the kids a little history lesson by touring the Spanish Fort and the oldest wooden schoolhouse.

Grab your bikes and spend the day riding some trails. We took a mini-vacation to Jekyll Island, spent a few hours exploring the island on our bikes. The kids got to ride along the coast, see a Sea Turtle rescue facility, and enjoy all the island had to offer.

Let the kids cook! Pinterest has lots of great ideas for cooking with your kids. I let the kids make their pizzas and sub sandwiches. It is simple, but they enjoy creating their own meal.

Popsicles are fun for the kids to make and can also be a great way to sneak fruit into their diet.

Other Fun Ideas

  1. My four-year-old son loves to build a fort. He will play for hours under his proudly made hideaway.

  2. Turn the living room into a dance party. The kids love the Wii’s, Just Dance! You can find Just Dance on Youtube as well. The kids are having fun, but I enjoy the exercise they get with the game.

  3. Board games can be a great way to have some fun with your kids and stepkids.

  4. Legos spend a few hours building a lego village or see who can make the tallest tower.

  5. A fun day at the beach, playing in the sand, or riding the waves.

Covid19 has been a challenge this school year, and with summer approaching quickly, finding ways to keep the kids busy can be a challenge.

No matter where you live, there are places you can experience with your family. The internet is full of creative ideas for having fun at home during the summer months.

What is something you have planned this summer with the kids?
