Be Steadfast

The other day in my prayer time with God, I heard the words, “Be Steadfast.” A phrase that I’m not sure I’ve ever heard or used, but it got me to digging in the bible, and there it was! In 1 Corinthian 15:58, “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord, your labor is not in vain.”

To be steadfast, according to the Merriam Webster dictionary, is to be firmly fixed in place: IMMOVABLE.

The Greek word for Steadfast is “hedraios,” and it means morally fixed, firm in purpose (mind), well stationed, not given to fluctuation or “moving off course.”

How easy is it to move off course and allow all the little distractions to dictate our day today? Some of us are facing real trials in our lives.

Embrace the struggle

As Christians, we are to be steadfast or immovable in our walk with God. Sometimes things in life happen that make us question it all and stops us in our tracks.

Are you struggling today in your marriage, with your kids, your job, your health, or maybe in your faith? Trials can bring about all kinds of emotions, such as feeling alone, frustrated, angry, disappointed, hurt, or broken.

God never promised that you would not face hardships or trials, but he did promise eternal life.

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial,

for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life,

which God has promised to those who love him.

James 1:12

Standing in the face of hardships

It is how we respond to God through the pain and hardships. Throughout the old and new testament, we see people like Joseph, who was sold into slavery, but he remained firm in his faith with God. Job lost his family but was immovable because he knew his eternal home was more important. Paul was beaten, thrown into prison, but he understood the steadfast love of God.

God’s love for us is steadfast; it is immovable. He cares so much for you and me that nothing will shake his love.

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;

his mercies never come to an end; Lamantaion 3:22

He doesn’t want us to hurt but knows that through our suffering will produce endurance. We focus too much on this world that we forget about our eternal life. Endurance is what we need to be steadfast and cross the finish line.

By your patient endurance, you will gain your souls.

Luke 21:19
